Today there was plenty of action out off the coast of Ballina and Byron Bay. We enjoyed breaching, comp groups, muggings & tail slapping on our Byron Bay Whale Watching Cruises at 8:00am & 11:00am. Conditions are looking good this week, so be sure to book aboard our Byron Bay Whale Watching Cruise.

Location & Details

welcome aboard

Before your cruise, please review the following important information. All guests are required to complete a quick pre-arrival waiver. If you didn’t receive the email, you can complete it at the bottom of this page. For last-minute bookings, please complete your waiver as soon as possible.

1. Location

*Please note: The boarding information below applies to tours departing from our Ballina location.
For snorkelling tours departing from Brunswick Heads, please view details here.

Our Whale Watching, Dolphin, and Richmond River cruises depart from the Lance Ferris Wharf, 12 Fawcett Street, Ballina, located directly in front of the Wharf Bar & Restaurant. Approximately 20mins south of Byron Bay.

Our Snorkel Tours depart from the Brunswick Heads Boat Harbour. Please view our Brunswick Heads boarding details here.

While boarding takes place in Ballina, we travel along the coastline between Ballina and Byron Bay, depending on whale activity. Each tour is unique, offering different sightings and experiences.

  • Whale watching transfers are available to book for $35 return via Ballina Byron Airport Transfers.
  • If you are travelling by car, free parking is available via our map below.
  • Regular public buses also operate between Byron Bay and Ballina, such as Blanch’s Route 640 or 641 bus.
  • Taxis and rideshare services are also readily available in the area.

2. Parking & Timing

Please refer to the map below for recommended parking options. Parking in the area is free. However, time limits apply. Therefore, please allow enough time for your 2-hour cruise.

Please arrive 30minutes prior to your departure to allow time for check-in and your safety briefing. Passengers must be present for the safety briefing to board. As we operate on a strict schedule and the vessel cannot wait for late arrivals.

3. What To Wear & Bring

Conditions can vary on the water, so we recommend dressing in layers for comfort. On warmer days, light clothing is suitable, with an extra layer for the ocean breeze. We provide high-quality marine ponchos onboard as a wind and waterproof outer layer if needed. If bringing a bag, we suggest keeping it small and easy to manage while onboard.

4. Seasick Precautions

If you are prone to Seasickness, we recommend preparing in advance:

  • Take over the counter medication (eg. Kwells or Travacalm) an hour before departure. Ginger tablets can also be helpful to prevent and treat motion sickness.
  • Try wearing an anti-nausea band. Some people like “Sea Bands.” They are bracelets with dots that purportedly touch acupressure points on your wrist. They have never been proven effective, but some people swear by them.
  • Be clean and sober. Even a mild hangover can easily degenerate into seasickness, besides increasing various diving risks. Likewise, fatigue predisposes you to seasickness.
  • Eat a light meal and stay hydrated. Opinions vary on this one, but most people feel better with a little bland food on their stomachs. Bread, bagels, pancakes, etc. are better than eggs and bacon. Coffee and orange juice are acidic and may irritate your stomach.
  • Relax. Fresh air and looking at the horizon towards the excting views and encounters can help occupy your mind and reduce symptoms.
  • We are here to help so please feel free to tell your captain that you’re prone at the start of the trip, and give updates if you start to feel queasy. Usually he can allow you to move to the rear of the vessel where you will be less affected.

5. Weather & Ocean Dependent

All cruises are subject to ocean and weather conditions. If conditions become unsuitable, departures may be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled for passenger safety.

We aim to notify our guests of any changes to conditions as early as possible. However, please note that this cannot always be guaranteed if conditions suddenly change. Please keep your phone on and check your messages prior to departure, as we will contact you via SMS (or Whatsapp) and email as a first point of contact if required.

6. Waiver

If you did not receive a pre-arrival waiver email, please click the button below to complete your ‘Waiver’. Each participant in your booking is required to do a seperate waiver, so please share this link. You will be asked a series of important questions and will be required to electronically sign the waiver (Parents to sign for children). This is mandatory for boarding our vessel.
